World Breastfeeding Week: There’s Power in Every Feed

Breastfeeding is one of the most remarkable things a woman’s body can do. It provides complete nutrition, strengthens the baby’s immune system, and builds a deep emotional connection between mother and child. It also supports the mother’s healing and wellbeing after birth. Yet, despite all of this, it often goes unrecognised.

During Women’s Month and World Breastfeeding Week, we’re honouring this powerful act. Because while breastfeeding is natural, it is not always simple. It takes time, effort, and commitment. Every mother who chooses to breastfeed deserves to feel supported, not pressured or judged.

Why breastfeeding matters

Breastmilk is known to reduce the risk of common childhood illnesses, support healthy weight gain, and promote early brain development. For mothers, it can reduce the risk of certain cancers and help the body recover after childbirth.

Despite these benefits, many mothers stop breastfeeding earlier than they hoped. This is often not by choice. It’s because of real barriers like limited knowledge about how breastfeeding works, lack of encouragement, uncertainty about milk supply, or confusion about feeding alongside medication. Some mothers may even feel unsure if they’re “doing it right.”

That’s why support matters. When women have access to good advice, safe products, and encouragement from their near and dear, they are more likely to feel confident in their feeding journey.

Every journey looks different

Some mothers breastfeed for months, others for weeks. Some express milk, others combine with formula. There’s no single right way, just what’s right for you and your baby. And every version of that deserves respect.
